Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore is located adjacent to the Lahore Fort and also the Badshahi Mosque. The complex is made up of a small monument at the place where Guru Arjan Dev Ji was Martyred. This was originally built by Guru Hargobind Ji. This is a small monument which contained a small golden palki sahib. There were remnents of old frescos painted on the higher parts of the walls and coving. Adjacent to the monument was a darbar hall which was under construction at the time of our visit. Next to this and up some stairs is a grand building, the Samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. At the time of our visit this building was being used as a Gurdwara while the other Gurdwara was being re-built. Originally this building contained urns with the ashes of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and other members of his family. But these urns were removed many years ago and replaced with stone slabs.
